Don’t let removing Play-Doh become a stress. Play-Doh can be fantastic for children’s creativity, but it can become a nuisance when it finds its way into your carpet. Fortunately, with a bit of patience and the right approach, you can remove Play-Doh from your carpet without causing damage. Here are some tried-and-tested tips:
Removing Play-Doh Tips:
1. Let the Play-Doh Dry
Resist the urge to clean the Play-Doh while it’s still wet. Attempting to scrape it off while it’s soft may push it further into the carpet fibres. Let the Play-Doh dry completely; this makes it easier to remove without smearing or spreading the stain.
2. Gently Scrape with a Dull Tool
Once dry, use a dull knife, spoon, or even a credit card to gently scrape away as much Play-Doh as possible. Be careful not to damage the carpet fibres. Work from the outside of the stain towards the centre to avoid spreading it.
3. Use a Vacuum Cleaner
After scraping, use a vacuum cleaner with strong suction to pick up the loose pieces. Avoid using the vacuum’s brush roll, as this could push the Play-Doh deeper into the carpet. Instead, use the hose attachment for best results.
4. Tackle Residue with Soapy Water
For any leftover residue, mix a small amount of mild washing-up liquid with warm water. Dampen a clean cloth with the solution and blot the stained area. Do not rub, as this can fray the carpet fibres and spread the stain. Afterwards, blot the area with a dry cloth to absorb excess moisture.
5. Rinse and Dry the Area
Once the residue is gone, rinse the area with a bit of clean water and blot dry. Placing a clean towel over the spot and weighing it down with something heavy can help soak up remaining moisture. Allow the carpet to air dry fully.
Extra Tip: Avoid Harsh Chemicals
Steer clear of bleach or harsh cleaning agents, as these can discolour or damage your carpet. When in doubt, test any cleaning solution on an inconspicuous area first.
